Gwen Stefani!!

On Tuesday, August 3rd, my girlfriends and I decided to go to Malibu and meet up at a great spot for the kids to play. Three of us met up with my friend Tami at a Coffee Bean, and she told us excitedly that she didn’t even notice, but when she looked up Gwen Stefani was standing next to her on the playground outside. We hurried and scuttled out of the Coffee Bean with our drinks to get a glimpse of Gwen!

Well, we ended up with a lot more than a glimpse!!!

We started off just playing on the swings, and Gwen came over to our section of the Gemma and her friends on the swing with Gwen Stefani in the background!playground and sat there texting on her Blackberry. She had a nanny there, but I saw her change Zuma’s diaper, give him a bottle, discipline Kingston – she was super hands-on!!

At one point, my daughter Gemma got real close to her and was going after her phone!! Then Gem went after Kingston’s dinosour toy. I told her it wasn’t hers and Gwen said it was okay she could play with it. Then Kingston wanted it back, so I had Gem give it back. Gwen commented that Gemma was so nice and sweet. Then she told Kingston to go get Gemma another toy she can play with out of his backpack. He came back with a little yellow car which Gemma wasn’t really interested in, so she sent him back again to fetch another toy for her. This time an elephant figurine, score! Gemma went to town chewing his head off – yikes!!

I told Kingston he was really nice to share with Gemma. Gwen said that it was because he was four and understands how to share now. I told her I had no idea how to teach a kid to share. She said that you don’t, it just happens! I completely agree!!

We chatted a while longer about Yo Gabba Gabba, a parrot they saw a few days ago, and a boy who Kingston liked from when they were at this spot last week. Her nanny then came over with Zuma, and Gwen told her Gavin was coming for lunch. I told them thanks for sharing and went off to get Gemma lunch!

Kingston Rossdale coming over to say goodbye!

They stayed a while longer until a papparazzi followed Gavin in, and then they pretty much took off, but Kingston made one more stop to Gemma and her friend Tyson who were blowing bubbles. He told Tyson he would be back next week……..awesome!. Looking forward to seeing them again!

I must say it was really nice to see such a celebrity being totally normal, laid back, friendly and hands on with her children. Mad respect for Gwen!! She was awesome!!!

I didn’t want to make her uncomfortable, but we did get some inconspicuous shots of her in the background……

Grease Sing-a-long

I ABSOLUTELY love the movie Grease!

When I was a teenager I would watch it over and over, and I knew all the words to the songs. Later on I dated a guy that totally reminded me of John Travolta in this film, and actually still does when I see the film! The bottom line is that now this film means even more to me. I look back and can’t help thinking of all the wonderful memories of high school: young love, school dances, cliques, slumber parties! Oh the list goes on! It was time of no financial stress, no responsibilities, no children, and it does feel nice to re-visit these every once in a while!

Well, I was lucky enough to be invited to a special screening by Paramount Pictures of the Grease Sing-a-long before it was released in theaters! I can easily say this was the BEST movie experience EVER!! I went with my lovely and just as loud and crazy friend Laura! There were a ton of Paramount staff with props, pink lady jackets, glasses and all kinds of  things to make for great photo ops! Did I mention a very tall drag queen?

Once we were checked into the theater, we were ushered up to a private area with an open bar (hello wine!!) and free food! There was also a huge poster of the film for even more photo ops!!

We had fabulous seats and the theater was packed!! When the songs came on, the entire theater sang at the top of their lungs!! I took a moment to look around and actually take it in, and everyone in the audience had huge smiles on their face, were holding hands with loved ones, and singing! When “Grease Lightning” came on, they told us they would be filming the audience for the commercial. So anyone who knows me, could’ve guessed that I would have gotten up out of my seat, gone to the front of the theater and completely let loose dancing like no one was looking! They’d be right!! They did serve us wine first ya know!

It was sooooo much fun, and afterwards we were interviewed for testimonials and got a free Grease Soundtrack.

I know that the film is being played in limited theaters but I absolutely plan on taking ALL my girlfriends back to experience it with me because it was amazing!!! Anyone who is looking for a good girls night out or fun date night, demand this film in your city and GOOOOO see it – www.greasemovie.com!!

PS I am not being paid at all to write this!!

Gemma’s 1st haircut

So after 18 months, I finally decided it was time for my daughter to have her 1st haircut. My husband wanted to keep it long, so I very sneakily went in and met with Gemma’s talent manager, and got her full agreement that Gemma should absolutely get her hair cut so she looks her age and can show off her cute chubby cheeks. Score!

I took Gemma to my hairdresser Kelly Hill at Limelight Hair Industries in Studio City. She is not only an extremely talented hair stylist, but a super cool person and a mother herself. I was so nervous about getting Gemma’s haircut, and I’m sorry to say, but not so much about the result of the hair cut, but more so about her sitting still for Kelly.

I brought Gemma’s favorite barbie doll, her snacks, her favorite book, and even the portable dvd player and crossed my fingers. It was a disaster! Gemma kept putting her hands up in an attempt to stop Kelly from touching her hair, she wiggled her way off of my lap and started running around the salon. Oh man, and on top of it she didn’t get a nap in before the appointment so she was tired and cranky in general.

Kelly worked so well with Gemma and I, and was so patient. She literally followed Gemma around the hair salon cutting as she went.

Kelly giving Gemma the "standing haircut."

I am so happy with the result and would totally recommend her for not only your hair needs, but your child’s and your husbands. She gave my husband a sexy faux-hawk for only $10! Hello? I said $10!

You can check out her site at www.limelighthairindustries.com.

Advice for moms taking their child for thier first hair cut:

a) Ensure your child is well rested before the appointment. If they are not, do everyone a favor and cancel and reschedule!

b) Go to a place that is laid back, family friendly, and doesn’t have 3-4 rich bitches getting their hair done at the same time. This way you won’t get dirty looks and feel embarassed if your child starts running around like a chicken with their head cut off.

c) DO bring a portable dvd player if you have one, toys, snacks, and all kinds of treats to bribe them to sit still.

So there you have it, the lessons I learned from getting Gemma her 1st haircut! Last but not least, Gemma’s new do….

Welcome to my blog!

I’m going to make my welcome short and sweet……

I have decided to start this blog because I want to help moms everywhere to be happy, healthy, and productive moms! When I became pregnant and had my first child, I quit singing (my passion since I was 12), I never went out, I lost friends, and generally lost myself as I knew it! I have talked to many other moms who have experienced the same thing. I know how easy it is to lose yourself in attempt to give everything to your child.

My daughter Gemma was born in November 2008 and is such joy, all I wanted to do was cater to her every need and ignore everything else.  But that is a lonely road! I learned I had to expand beyond just my child. I took back up singing, I met some wonderful mama friends who I get to do awesome mommy things with, I joined playdate groups in LA and regularly take Gemma on the coolest playdates!! I started projects around my house to upgrade and design it, and now I have my pet project, this very blog!!!

I plan on helping in any way I can to make moms happier, to pamper them, to give them a social life beyond just their children and husband, and to generally  make their lives easier. I promise to hunt down and scour for the best deals in town on everything mommy’s like. I promise to find super cool stuff that moms love and show them to all of you. I promise to do radical giveways that will make one mom’s day when she finds out she wins. I promise to watch many movies and tv and gossip about them and the celebrities in them. I promise to go to local venues, events,  playgrounds and do in-depth reviews with photos and details.  I plan to come up with EXCELLENT girls night out ideas and hopefully inspire you to go out with your girlfriends. The list goes on, but I’m pretty sure you get the idea!! Why, you ask? Simply, because it makes me happy, and I have a feeling it can make many other mommies happy too!!

So here we go……..WELCOME TO MY BLOG!!! Hope you enjoy!!

Amy Allen

Now between this post and the “about me” I have told you a lot about my interests! Now please take a second to let me know what makes you happy!
